april showers won't stop falling

For some reason that beach bunny song is stuck in my head today lol.

Things have been kind of busy, which is why I haven't posted here much. But I've been doing my thing, for the most part. Lots of reading got done in April. The Art Spirit by Robert Henri and Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke were two really incredible books about art that I found really enlighting and inspiriing. I also just finished Mark Fisher's last book The Weird and the Eerie, which was really interesting. He had a really great way of engaging with film and literature.

I also finally got around to watching the Zone of Interest, which had a pretty profound effect on me. I think it just hits a little too hard right now given the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the how literally today, the memory of the Holocaust is being used to justify mass slaughter. It feels to me like a kind of doublethink, and it's scary how succeptible people are to it. That's kind of what drives this preoccupation with media and politics, how it can warp our vision in such profound ways about the most important and defining issues. Jonathan Glazer said this in his acceptance speech at the Oscars:

All our choices are made to reflect and confront us in the present. Not to say, Look what they did then, rather look what we do now.

It's been really difficult as a jewish person seeing anti-semitism used to slander people protesting genocide. Sending solidarity and saftey for anyone resisting in college campuses or anywhere else right now. Never again for anyone.
