I've been all over the place. Yesterday my phone broke, I got locked out of my apartment, and I got caught in the rain. The good news it that 2/3 of those issues are resolved and the remainder should be taken care of vry soon!!
New Phoebe Bridgers album is good! It's interesting to see a indie rock record like this so inspired by ambient music. Bobby and Governor's Waltz are peak. The rest of it is cool, but I need to listen more. I've only listened a few times - post-spotify life makes getting into new musice a little bit harder tbh. Lately, I've been sticking w/ with Interpol, especially their second album.
I also got a chance to see My Chemical Romance at Citi Field last sunday, the first date of the North American leg of their Black Parade 20th anniversary tour. It's funny, I remember rolling my eyes when they announced they were doing this tour, never expected to make it to one of the dates. I had seem them before in Newark a few years ago and didn't feel like I'd ever need to see them again, but my friend talked me into it lol. I"m glad I ended up going, though - it was really awesome. They played an extended version of Mama that was a fun and in the B set they played Demolition Lovers with some string accomaniment. I totally forgot about that song, but it might actually be my favorite of theirs.
Besides that, I unironically have been pretty emo lately. I've settled into my new place alright, but mood-wise I've just been deflated and creatively I've been very unproductive. I've been thinking a lot lately about Burrough's notion of the control addict as a sort of abstract self-diagnosis. It's funny how the theme of giving up control does come up a lot in all those embarrasing self-help books I've been reading, inadvertently pointing me back to this. I think I used to be very dismissive about that kind of advice, just since I already operate with a general attitude of surrender and radical acceptence of external circumstances. But Control is a broad and evasive category that can look very different for different people. I think for me it's less about giving up control more so about desituating oneself from the operations and images of control as they appear within you, as well as how it comes at you from outside. The whole idea needs a lot of clarification, will def write more on this.
but ya that's what my brain's been like lately, updates to the site coming soon!
go w/ the flow,
